The project area is a privileged point of view of observation, overlooking the valley in an agricultural area of landscape value. The Loiano primary school project assumes the condition of the site to place volumes and open spaces with the aim of reducing landscape impacts and maintaining visibility towards the landscape.

The choice of materials for the external finishing is fundamental for the insertion in the landscape: the two floors of the school building have been differentiated, with a basement part covered with stone reconstructed according to local characteristics, and a “lighter” upper part for the classrooms with a wooden structure and a coloured plaster finish.

The large entrance hall, the system of access routes to the classrooms visually connected with the outside, the spaces around the stairwells, become places with natural lighting where you can stop, talk, observe, play, exhibit, meet.

The construction has a load-bearing structure in reinforced concrete on the ground/basement floor and in wood on the first floor, X-lam cross-laminated solid wood panels for walls and roof slab. With this system, the insulation, external cladding and façade elements are fixed with a drywall system, also allowing an easy passage of the plant engineering parts.

The school’s project involves the integrated use of renewable energy sources that guarantee 100% of the building’s needs. In particular, the use of innovative photovoltaic in the roof produces all the energy necessary for the operation of the systems (NZEB Building).
